Diagnostic Services

At Locust Valley Veterinary Clinic, we have cutting edge diagnostic tools that allow us to accurately diagnose conditions in your pet. In addition to performing minor procedures at our hospital, we use our 24 hour location in Huntington to perform more extensive procedures and diagnostics. We offer diagnostic services such as:

  • Digital radiology (x-rays)
  • Digital dental radiology
  • Ultrasound
  • Endoscopy
  • Laboratory
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Anesthesia monitoring

Digital Radiology

X-rays are the most common imaging tool we use to examine your dog or cat’s internal organs, including the heart and lungs, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive tract, and genitourinary system. X-rays are a non-invasive procedure helps our veterinarians get a closer look at what is happening within the your pet’s body. Digital x-rays produce a much higher image quality, which makes it easier to view and evaluate compared to a classical x-ray. Digital x-rays offer quick and accurate results, which means less time away from your pet and a faster diagnosis.

When digital radiology is used:

  • To find foreign objects or materials within the body that may have been ingested
  • To diagnose fractures, bone and/or joint abnormalities, and various injuries
  • To screen for abnormalities within the heart, lungs, urinary, and digestive organs
  • To screen for some types of cancer

Digital Dental Radiology

With digital dental radiography, we are able to gain a detailed look at the internal anatomy of your pet’s teeth and mouth, including the roots and surrounding bone. A significant percentage of the tooth is under the gumline, and without dental x-rays, there is no way to evaluate this.

Ultrasound

This is a non-invasive imaging tool that gives us the ability to visualize the internal organs of the body. Real-time results are received by sound waves that travel into the body, returning 3D images of your pet’s internal organs. These high-definition images allow our skilled veterinarians to see how the organs are functioning, and how the blood of your pet is flowing during the time of the ultrasound.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to evaluate your pet’s internal organs. With our endoscope, we are able to remove gastric or esophageal foreign bodies, and evaluate your pet’s gastrointestinal tract. If necessary, biopsies can also be taken when performing during an endoscopic procedure.

Laboratory

We have an in-house laboratory that allows us to evaluate and diagnose your pet’s health in the event of an emergency. We can immediately diagnose the condition, and work to save your pet’s life within minutes. We also work with a complete reference laboratory, with a rapid turnaround time for test results.

Blood Pressure Monitoring

Blood pressure monitoring is critical in assessing your pet. One of our trained technicians will monitor your pet’s blood pressure while under anesthesia, with certain medical conditions, or during life threatening situations.

Anesthesia Monitoring

While your pet is under anesthesia, our veterinary technicians monitor all vitals, and adjust the anesthesia as needed to ensure your pet is as safe as possible. We monitor your pet’s heart rate, ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, capnography, and temperature during the entire process of the surgery.
